Answer from the Center on the petition filed against Whatsapp’s

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought response of the Central Government and social media platforms – Facebook and Whatsapp – on a PIL filed against the new privacy policy of Whatsapp.

A bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jasmeet Singh issued notices to the Centre, Facebook, and WhatsApp, asking them to present their stand on the petition by May 13. WhatsApp told the bench that personal conversations of individuals are protected by end-to-end encryption.

Petitioner Harsha Gupta urged the court to pass some interim orders as WhatsApp would make its policy effective from May 15. In view of this, the court listed the matter for hearing on May 13. (agency)
