Bengal cricket team coach told players – long hair cut


Kolkata. Former Bengal cricket team captain and Sports Minister Laxmi Ratan Shukla started a new innings as an Under-23 coach with a fitness camp on Monday. He has imposed strict rules for players, which include staying away from social media and cutting long hair. Shukla, a veteran in domestic cricket for Bengal, joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in 2016 and was the Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports till January this year.

Laxmi Ratan Shukla was later made Howrah district president of TMC, but just before the last assembly elections, he left the post and politics to focus more on cricket. He returned as the coach of the Bengal Under-23 team. The 40-year-old former player said after taking charge, ‘I have told the boys not to put anything on social media. They have to maintain courtesy and discipline.

Must learn Bengali for solidarity

The fitness camp lasted for more than four hours, in which 60 cricketers took part. These cricketers were divided into groups and all came to train in groups. Laxmi Ratan Shukla said, ‘Players with long hair will have to cut their hair immediately. Thirdly, he has to learn Bengali for team cohesion. “It is very important for players to move from junior level to the senior team and that is why I have opted to work with junior players,” he said.

Played three ODIs for India

Lakshmi Ratan Shukla, who has played three one-day internationals for India, said her job is to ensure that more players from Bengal make it to the national team. Last year many tournaments including Ranji Trophy could not be held due to Corona. But this year the BCCI has made preparations to organize most of the tournaments. The schedule has also been announced by the board.
