Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum feels the Kiwis were a bit uncomfortable in the T20 World Cup final against Australia and players could not express it despite their aggressive style. New Zealand defeated England to make it to the World Cup final but Australia beat them by eight wickets to break their dream of winning a second ICC title this year.

McCullum said that his team’s players did not use their potential properly in the final, which led to the defeat. The team did not adopt the kind of aggressive attitude that was needed in a match like this.

He said, “I do not want to say that where the gun was supposed to work, we went with a knife. We went with a gun but we did not open fire. We were a little uncomfortable. We missed the chance. We didn’t use the bullets we had taken with us.

McCullum said New Zealand should have taken a more aggressive approach to face a team like Australia. He specifically mentioned Martin Guptill, who could not get the team off to a flamboyant start.

McCullum said, “I expected him (Martin Guptill) to be a little more aggressive. He scored 28 runs in 35 balls in the final which doesn’t look good.
