Two more players withdrew from India Open badminton tournament due to Corona

New Delhi. Two more players have pulled out of the main draw of the tournament ahead of their mixed doubles semi-final bout as the coronavirus pandemic has started taking hold of the India Open badminton tournament.

Second-seeded Russian mixed doubles player Rodion Alimov was found to be corona infected and withdrew from the $400,000 prize money tournament. His mixed doubles partner Elina Davletova also had to withdraw due to being in close contact. Yong Kei Terry Hee and Wei Han Tan of Indonesia got walkovers.

“The Badminton World Federation confirms that one player tested positive in the current draw has withdrawn from the Yonex Sunrise India Open 2022,” the World Badminton Federation said in a statement. The player was found positive in the mandatory RT-PCR test on Friday. The partner who was in close contact with him has also withdrawn his name. Their rivals got a walkover.” Earlier yesterday, seven India players, including World Championship silver medalist Kidambi Srikanth, had to withdraw after being found infected.
