Colombo. The Indian team scored 164 for 5 in 20 overs on Sunday in the first T20 International of the series against Sri Lanka (IND vs SL 1st T20I), thanks to the brilliant half-century of Suryakumar Yadav. Colombo’s R. Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and invited India to bat first at the Premadasa Stadium. Suryakumar Yadav scored 50 runs in 34 balls and his innings included 5 fours and 2 sixes. Apart from him, captain Shikhar Dhawan contributed 46 runs in 36 balls with the help of 4 fours and a six.

The Indian team suffered a setback on the opening ball itself and young opener Prithvi Shaw (0) was shown the way to the pavilion by Dushmanta Chamira catching Minod behind the wicket on the very first ball. After this, Dhawan and Sanju Samson (27) took the innings forward and added 51 runs for the second wicket. Sanju was dismissed lbw by Hasranga. He hit 2 fours and a six in his innings of 20 balls. Suryakumar and Dhawan hit some good shots and shared a 62-run partnership for the third wicket.

Young batsman Prithvi Shaw made his T20 International debut from this match but he could not leave any mark. He got caught behind the wicket after playing a bad shot on the very first ball of the innings. All-rounder Hardik Pandya also became a victim of Chamira and was dismissed after scoring only 10 runs in 12 balls. His brother Krunal Pandya returned unbeaten on three and Ishan Kishan scored 20 runs. Kishan hit a four and a six in his unbeaten innings of 14 balls.

For Sri Lanka, Chamira took 2 wickets for 24 runs while Hasaranga took 2 wickets for 28 runs. Apart from him, Karunaratne took a wicket. Indian spinner Varun Chakraborty is also debuting from this match. India had earlier won the three-match ODI series 2-1.
