India vs Japan Highlights Asian Champions Trophy 2021 Semifinal IND vs PAK 3rd place match

Asian Champions Trophy (ACT) men’s hockey defending champions and Olympic bronze medalist Team India thrashed Japan 5-3 in the second semi-final on Tuesday. Before the match, Team India was considered as a strong contender for victory as Japan’s record in head to head was very poor against India and Team India defeated Japan 6-0 in the round robin match. But changing all the figures, Japan secured its place in the final by registering this victory.

On Tuesday, Japan’s team looked completely changed and they started penetrating the defense line of the Manpreet Singh-led side from the very beginning. Japan were given the lead by Shota Yamada scoring a penalty in the first minute while Reiki Fujishima (2nd), Yoshiki Kirishita (14th), Kosei Kawabe (35th) and Ryoma Oka (41st) also scored.

Dilpreet Singh (17th minute), vice-captain Harmanpreet Singh (43rd) and Hardik Singh (58th) scored for India. The team of India and Japan had faced each other 18 times before, out of which India won 16 matches, lost one match and drew one match.

Japan will take on South Korea in the title clash while India will face Pakistan in the bronze medal play-off on Wednesday. South Korea beat Pakistan 6-5 in another semi-final. India finished on top in the round robin stage, remaining unbeaten.
