When Indian T20 vice-captain Lokesh Rahul was asked about the rising level of air pollution in the city ahead of the first match of the series against New Zealand, he said that we have come here to play cricket. Like Delhi, the air pollution level in Jaipur has also increased after Diwali earlier this month.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) of Jaipur was very poor on Saturday while the city witnessed smog (a mixture of haze and smoke) on Monday morning as well.

Rahul said before the first practice session of the Indian team on Monday, “Actually we are not out yet. We have just reached the stadium so I don’t have the answer. I didn’t bring a meter in my hand so I don’t know how bad the pollution level is.

“I’m sure it’s not that bad,” he said. We have all come here to play cricket.

Meanwhile, India took part in the first training session under the guidance of new head coach Rahul Dravid. During this, Rohit Sharma, Dravid’s teammates and other support staff were also present. The team took part in the first practice session after three days of isolation.

India are scheduled to play three T20 Internationals against New Zealand on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, followed by a two-Test series between the two teams.
