New Zealand has proved that success doesn’t require sparring: Greg Chappell

Melbourne. Former Australia captain Greg Chappell said world Test champions New Zealand showed that a team does not need to resort to sledging to achieve success in international cricket.

Chappell wrote in his book ‘Not Out’, “New Zealand, now the current world champions of Test cricket, proved that you don’t need it (slang) to be successful.”

According to an excerpt from this book published in ‘’, he said, “The kind of cricket Kane Williamson’s team has played – their batting proactively between the wickets, their quick fielding and sharp bowlers with speed. Good mix of bounce, swing and seam – he is in many ways similar to what generations of Australians played before sniping was made a strategic weapon.

Chappell has written all this about the sneezing culture which has become a big issue in Australian cricket and has been in the news after the ball-tampering scandal in 2018.

Chappell wrote, “This sort of thing was rarely seen in the days of Allan Border and Mark Taylor, but in the time of Steve (Smith) it became acceptable and it became a common strategy against rival players.”
