New Delhi. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday said the National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) income from toll will increase from Rs 40,000 crore per annum to Rs 1.40 lakh crore per annum in the next three years. Addressing an event here, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways said that there is a huge opportunity for investors in India’s infrastructure sector as the traffic is increasing every year.

He said, “The annual toll income of NHAI at present is Rs 40,000 crore. This will increase to Rs 1.40 lakh crore per annum in the next three years. Inviting investors to invest in the infrastructure sector, Gadkari said that the Indian economy is very important. While the size is increasing, naturally the rate of return on infrastructure projects is also increasing.

The Union Minister said that the conciliation committees should decide on projects related to road infrastructure within three months. Delay in the decision making process also adds to the cost. For speedy and mutual settlement of claims, NHAI has constituted three committees of independent experts consisting of three members so that the process can be completed expeditiously. These committees are headed by retired officers of the judiciary, senior experts from public administration, finance and the private sector.
