Popular singer Tapu Mishra died due to coronavirus: Popular Oriya playback singer Tapu Mishra passed away at a private hospital here due to health complications post COVID-19. She was 36 years old. Mishra’s father also passed away on May 10 due to Kovid-19. Sources in the singer’s family said that Mishra breathed his last on Saturday night. He was admitted to the hospital on 19 May. Hospital sources said Mishra’s oxygen level had dropped to 45, following which he was put on a ventilator two days ago. His lungs were also badly damaged due to the infection.
Another source in this regard said that her family was planning to take her to Kolkata for treatment and the state culture department had sanctioned Rs 1 lakh from Artists Welfare Fund for the singer’s treatment. The Oriya film industry or Olywood also started raising funds for Mishra’s treatment.
Mishra started his career in singing in films with the Odia film ‘Kulnandan’. He gave his melodious voice in more than 150 films and also sang many bhajans in his career spanning two decades. After his death, a wave of mourning ran across the state. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik tweeted, “Very sad to learn about the passing away of popular Odia singer Tapu Mishra. She will always be remembered in the Odia music world as a singer. I extend my deepest condolences to his family and friends.
