Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav called up from Sri Lanka to

New Delhi. Young openers Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav will soon leave for England. Both the batsmen can be included in the Indian team for the five-match Test series against England starting next month. According to a report in Cricinfo, the team management has decided to call Shaw and Yadav to England due to injuries to Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan and Washington Sundar.

Both Prithvi Shaw and Yadav are currently part of the T20 International series in Sri Lanka. Both were also given a chance in the first T20 of the series. Prithvi made his T20 International debut from this match but he could not make a mark and returned to the pavilion without opening the account. Suryakumar Yadav scored a brilliant half-century and scored 50 runs. Indian team captained by Shikhar Dhawan won this match by 38 runs.

Shubman Gill and Sundar were part of the 20-man Indian squad announced in May for the World Test Championship Final and the England Test series. Avesh Khan was included along with four standby players. The BCCI has not yet given the details of these three players being out after the injury. After the WTC final in June, Gill returned to India this week after suffering a calf injury on his left leg.

Avesh Khan had fractured his left thumb on the first day of three-day practice against County Select XI in Durham this week. Sundar also played for the County XI with passion, but did not bowl in the match. It has been learned about him that his finger was hurt.

It is not yet confirmed whether the selectors have kept Prithvi Shaw and Yadav as reserves or made him part of the main Test squad. At present, there are three reserve players with the team, which include opener Abhimanyu Easwaran, pacer famous Krishna and Arjan Nagwaswala. Shaw will continue as a back-up opener along with Mayank Agarwal and Easwaran when he joins the team. The inclusion of Suryakumar Yadav probably seems to indicate the concern of the team management over the fitness of senior batsman Ajinkya Rahane. Indian vice-captain Rahane did not play in the practice match due to a hamstring problem. However, the BCCI said that he can recover in time for the first Test, which starts in 10 days.
