T20 World Cup: Williamson praises bowlers for restricting Afghanistan to low scores

Abu Dhabi. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson on Sunday said his bowlers had set a good stage for their eight-wicket win against Afghanistan and an easy entry into the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. New Zealand chased down the target of 125 runs in the Group 2 match with 11 balls to spare and made it to the semi-finals. This forced India out of the tournament. Williamson said after the match, “Strong performance. We know how dangerous this Afghanistan team is. The bowlers set a good stage for us. He picked up wickets early and restricted Afghanistan to a low score. A score of 150 to 155 would have been level.

New Zealand will most likely take on England in the semi-finals. Williamson said, “There is another big challenge ahead. England team is very strong. It is important for us to keep learning and moving forward.” Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi said that his team did not start well and lost three wickets in the beginning.

“Our plan was to win the toss and bat first but we didn’t have a good start. Najibullah got us back but we didn’t finish well. We didn’t score well.” Man of the match Trent Boult said that he is ready for the semi-final match against England. Bolt said, “The match ahead is very challenging for us. England is playing good cricket. It will be a challenge.”
