New Delhi. Two-wheeler maker TVS Motor Company’s total sales in May this year declined by 30 percent as compared to April. The company sold 2,38,983 units in April, while the number declined to 1,66,889 in May. The company sold 58,906 units in May last year when the nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic hit sales.
TVS Motor Company said in a statement that it sold a total of 1,54,416 two-wheelers in May 2021, up from 2,26,193 in April. The company sold 56,218 two-wheelers in May 2020. The company sold 1,25,188 motorcycles in May 2021 as against 1,33,227 in April. TVS sold 26,772 motorcycles in May 2020. TVS sold 19,627 scooters in May 2021, up from 65,213 in April. The company sold 16,120 scooters in May 2020.
Last month, the company’s three wheeler sales stood at 12,473 units as against 12,790 units in April and 2,688 units in May last year. The company said, “In many states, domestic sales decreased due to lockdown but retail sales remained more than supply. We expect the demand to pick up again with the reopening of the market.” (agency)
